What drew Laura to historical romance is that she has always dreamed of having a time machine and there is no better way to do it than with a historical romance.

By the end of 1991, she had finished writing “Prelude to Heaven”, which was published in 1994. In time, she decided that she had better fulfill her dream and set out to write her first novel. In the meantime, she went to college, took a four-year business degree, and went on to work in the corporate world for a further seven years. Guhrke vowed to prove her wrong by becoming the best writer she could ever be. Trying her hand in writing, her teacher was her biggest discouragement as she told her that she had no future in writing as she wrote stories that were too sappy. This was until she dissected her first frog in a biology class and hated it so much that she knew she had to find another career. Unlike many writers that knew very early on that all they wanted to do was write, when Laura was a child, all she wanted to do was become a marine biologist working on the Galapagos Islands. “Conor’s Way” that was published in 1997 was the winner of the Best 1997 Best Historical Romance RITA Award. Her titles regularly make the bestseller lists of the New York Times and the USA Today, with her bestselling novel “Guilty Pleasures” getting the gong for the 2004 Best European Historical Romance by the Romantic Times. In fact, the Romantic Times asserted that she is one of historical romance’s most natural voices to emerge in the second decade of the new millennium.

Some of her most prestigious honors include the RITA Award by the Romance Writers of America, several awards from the All About Romance, and the Romantic Times. She has written over twenty historical romance titles that have gone on to win her critical acclaim and numerous honors over the years. Lee Guhrke published her debut novel “Prelude to Heaven” in 1994 and given the massive success of her first title, she has never looked back since. Laura Lee Guhrke is an American award-winning historical romance writer who is best known for the “Girl Bachelors”, “Abandoned at the Altar”, “Guilty”, and the “An American Heiress in London” series of novels alongside several freestanding novels.
